Yucef
Merhi (Caracas, 1977) is an artist, poet and programmer. Since 1985, he has
been developing and exhibiting New Media Art based in poetry and hacking. His
career includes a world wide exhibition record in places such as the New
Museum of Contemporary Art (New York); Bronx Museum (New York); El Museo del
Barrio (New York); Eyebeam (New York); Orange County Museum of Art (Califonia);
Robert V. Fullerton Museum (California); De Appel (Amsterdam); Java Museum
(Cologne); Museo Michetti (Rome); Borusan Culture & Art Center (Istanbul);
Paço das Artes (Sao Paulo); Museo del Chopo (México DF); Museo de Arte
Contemporáneo de Yucatán (Yucatán); Galería de Arte Nacional (Caracas); Museo
de Bellas Artes (Caracas); Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Caracas); Museo Alejandro Otero (Caracas); Museo Sacro
(Caracas); Museo Jacobo Borges (Caracas); Museo Jesús Soto (Ciudad Bolívar); among others.
He also
participated in the official selections of the
7th International Festival of New Film, Split, Croatia;
the 2007 Bienal de São
Paulo - Valencia; and the 10th Istanbul Biennial.
Merhi has lectured at Pace
University, New York University, the California Institute of the Arts,
Instituto Armando Reverón, Sandberg Institut, Universidad de Los Andes and
numerous museums in Venezuela, México, Brazil, United States, Spain and
Holland. He was jury member of the Digital Arts competition produced by CNN in
2003, as well as jury member of several exhibitions in New York.
